Yahoo Creek: An Australian Mystery, by Tohby Riddle, published by Allen & Unwin
This new book by Tobhy Riddle was many years in the making.
Tohby, who lives in the Blue Mountains in NSW, is a
multi-award-winning creator of picture books and illustrated books that
have been published in many languages throughout the world. They are
quirky and memorable and include Great Escape from City Zoo, The Royal Guest, Unforgotten and The Greatest Gatsby: a visual book of grammar. A tenth anniversary edition of his classic picture book Nobody owns the Moon will be released by Berbay in April when we look forward to sharing more information about Tohby and his illustration.
In Yahoo Creek. luminous images accompanied by newspaper
extracts dating back to the early 1800s and words by Ngiyampaa Elder,
Peter Williams, explore the ongoing mystery of yahoo encounters.
'He was surprised to observe a hairy human form, about seven feet in height, walking in the bush.' Queanbeyan Age, 24 August 1886
Throughout the first century or so of Australian settlement by
Europeans, the pages of colonial newspapers were haunted by reports of a
bewildering phenomenon: the mysterious yahoo or hairy man ... Yahoo Creek breathes life into this little-known piece of Australian history - which, by many accounts, is a history still in the making.
'These stories are not my stories or your stories, they're our stories.' Peter Williams, Ngiyampaa Elder.

March with the Australian Children's Laureate
|
|
|
|
From Morris Gleitzman ...
One
of the things I enjoy doing when I read a story is to hop into the
shoes and the throughts and feelings of not just the main character, but
every character, whether the author takes us there or not. It's
fascinating how rich and varied the action of a story and the characters
in it are when we're seeing them from all those different points of
view. And how the simple idea of goodies and baddies turns out to be a
bit more complicated and interesting.
