Looking back, we've enjoyed many things in the leafy month of May...
Over the weekend of Saturday May 19 & Sunday May 20, Geelong was host to a wonderfully integrated weekend with important cultural organisations collaborating to offer three great experiences: The REIMAGINE! New ways with Literature CBCA Conference, Family Fun Day, and REIMAGINE - the world according to children's books Illustration Exhibition.
The CBCA Conference on Saturday was a good mix of creative and academic sessions - a buzz for teachers, librarians, authors and illustrators, booksellers and others working in the area of children’s literature. Australian Children's Laureate, Morris Gleitzman’s keynote was an inspirational start to the full and fabulous program. The Geelong Library hosted the Family Fun Day on Sunday. There were lively family activities all day with creators of all sorts - writers, artists and musicians - in the magnificent 'Dome' building. Right next door in the Geelong Gallery, where 20 years of Australian children's book illustration was celebrated in the REIMAGINE Illustration Exhibition - a perfect way to marvellously connect two adjacent venues.
We congratulate all those involved in such a successful literary weekend. We know it was a long time in planning but resulted in a very impressive collaborative achievement - a model that could be adaopted by other regional centres.

Australian Children's Laureate, Morris Gleitzman's theme for June
JUST ADMIT IT JUNE Stories make us Honest 'You can’t solve a problem in a story or in real life without being honest about what’s causing the problem. This can involve research, making neat lists, thinking hard about the past and listening to the opinions of friends and pets. And sometimes having a really scary thought – am I causing the problem? Tough one. We prefer not to think about that. Until we remember that very rarely do heroes in stories win through by lying to themselves.'
