 We are looking forward to welcoming in another phase of this New Year
with the Lunar New Year celebrations beginning on February 16. 
2018 is Year of the Dog, and although we may not know a great deal about the  Chinese Zodiac, we are more than happy to celebrate some great
'dog' books and illustrations that have been created.

Maggie says
I am an animal lover who has owned pets most of my life. I understand how important pets are in ours lives and acknowledge their individual personalities. Animals all have their own character and bring a very special source of joy and companionship into our lives. I take pride in aiming to capture their unique character and creating for you a high quality piece of art that will last a lifetime.

Anne Spudvilas is a multi-award-winning illustrator of children's books and an established portrait painter and printmaker. Her first picture book, The Race by Christobel Mattingley, was awarded the Crichton Award for Illustration and was a CBCA Honour Book. Her bestselling books include The Peasant Prince by Li Cunxin, which won the NSW and Queensland Premiers' Awards in 2008, andJenny Angel by Margaret Wild, which was CBCA Picture Book of the Year in 2000. Anne's move to the Murray River has inspired her latest book, an illustrated retelling of the classic ballet story Swan Lake. She lives in Wentworth, where the Murray and Darling rivers meet, surrounded by birds and river red gums.

New Australian Children's Laureate Announced -
 Morris Gleitzman!

Morris Gleitzman is the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2018-2019.
The theme for his two-year term will be Stories Make Us – Stories Create Our Future.
For more than 30 years Morris Gleitzman has written celebrated books for young people – sometimes serious, sometimes funny and sometimes confronting. His titles include Two Weeks With the QueenBoy OverboardToad Rage and the acclaimed ‘Felix’ series beginning with Once. His books are published in more than 20 countries.

The official presentation will be at the State Library of NSW on February 15.

February 14 Library Lovers' Day
This Day will be launched at the Parliamentary Friends of Australian Books and Writers event at Parliament House on  February 13.
Take a look at some ideas on how to celebrate Library Lovers' Day and be inspired!
February 17  SCBWI EVENT 
The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators is an international professional organisation for writers and illustrators of children's literature. Chapters of the organisation around Australia hold regular events to support Australia creators.
The Victorian event on February 17 is billed for it’s members ‘to get your creative juices flowing’
Guest speakers include author Neridah McMullin, illustrator Liz Anelli and website designer & blogger Jin Wang.

February 27 - Night of the Notables
The first event to kick off the 2018 Book of the Year Awards celebrations is the Night of The Notables. The Victorian event will be held this year at the Melbourne Polytechnic on Tuesday February 27, 6pm. email vic@cbca.org.au for bookings.

REIMAGINE! New Ways With Literature
Bookings are now open for the CBCA Vic State Conference, which will be held on 19th May 2018 at Deakin University - Geelong - Waterfront Campus.

The exciting line up of writers and illustrators are now confirmed. We encourage everyone in the children’s book world to take advantage of the opportunity to engage with creators, publishers and practitioners to ‘Reimagine'.
With a moderate registration fee, excellent hospitality and take home resources, why not take advantage of the early bird registrations, which are now open!
