National Bookshop Day - Saturday August 12

Bookshops all over Australia will celebrate this National event!
If you are in Melbourne we invite you to visit what undoubtably could be the smallest bookshop in this city - Books Illustrated at 74 Mills, St Albert Park.
We'll be open from 10am to 5pm - with the kettle boiling!
Although small, our showroom is packed with great Australian picture books and irresistible limited edtion prints by picture book illustrators from around Australia.

Join Ann James and other illustrators at the Books Illustrated stand in The Atrium to celebrate the start of 2017 Children's Book Week and the announcement of the Childen's Book Council of Australia's Book of the Year Awards.

Our display of prints and books will transport you into the CBCA theme for 2017 - 'Escape to Everywhere'.

This year's Escape to Everywhere promotional images are designed by Freya Blackwood, illustrator of last year's winner of the Picture Book section of the Book of the Year Awards.

You can purchase Book Week merchandise from the CBCA website and down-load the list of this year's award winners from 12noon on Friday August 18 !

Illustration Inspiration

Classic Australian stories that have stayed the test of time are an inspiration and these books are still in print ... and also in beautiful giclee prints!

• Isobelle Carmody's The Legend of Little Fur was first published in 2005 - read it and the whole Little Fur series!

• Alison Lester's My Farm - will be released this month in a special 25th Anniversary edition! (Our Farm was our very first exhibition when we opened Books Illustrated at Gasworks Arts Park)

Magabala Illustration Award
Magabala books, Australia's leading Indigenous publisher based in Broome, is celebrating it's 30th anniversary with a call for entries to the inaugural Kestin Indigenous Illustrator Award. The winner of the biennial award will receive $10,000 a mentorship and the opportunity to illustrate a children's story by renowned author and illustrator Sally Morgan. read more
