Books Illustrated Touring Exhibitions
The Many Story Treehouse Exhibition has opened!

See it at Hurstville Regional Gallery in NSW until May 3, 2020.
Books Illustrated has been touring this exhibition for several  years and it's
proved a favourite with visitors of all ages. This exhibition celebrates
the brilliance of Terry Denton and you'll see his original art, sketches,
preparatory work for the phenomenally popular Treehouse books
created with Andy Griffiths and published by Pan Macmillan.

A limited edition print of every cover of the Treehouse series
is available for sale as well as a very limited selection of
handcoloured original ilustrations from The 26 - Storey Treehouse.

The Children's Book Publishing community continues to create
initiatives in response to, and in support of, the Bushfire disaster.

Books for Bushfires
A national initiative of the Children's Book Council of Australia
encouraging people to donate money to buy books for children
and young adults affected by the bushfire crisis and, at the same time,
in association with the Booksellers Association, support local businesses
by purchasing books from local booksellers. http://www.givit.org.au/

Art for Wildlife
launched on February1, by Scribble publisher Miriam Rosenbloom
Art for Wildlife, is an online store selling open-edition prints by illustrators including Shaun Tan, Sophie Beer and Marc Martin. The year-long campaign will see six new artworks added to the catalogue on the first day of each month. Each print retails at $35, and all proceeds (less printing and postage costs) will be donated to
Seed Indigenous Climate Youth Network and Bush Heritage.

Rosenbloom said: ‘Art for Wildlife is an attempt to channel our feelings of helplessness and despair into action and engagement. The long-term ecological impact of the fires will clearly be devastating and we hope this project can raise awareness and financial support for these fantastic organisations doing such important work.’

Recovery

Together with Beinart Gallery and Splitting Image Colour Studio, Shaun Tan has donated  a limited edition of 500 to be sold at a special price to raise money (potentially $50,000) for communities and wildlife restoration in bushfire ravaged regions of Australia and for organisations committed to long term climate justice and advocacy for change:

'Recovery' is the title of a limited edition print of an original painting by Shaun Tan

Recovery is one of my personal favourite images, a scene from the picture book Rules of Summer (2013), based on a recurring childhood dream. What at first is a very grim and menacing landscape reveals itself to be a scene of compassion and hope, which to me reflects something of real feeling currently experienced in many parts of Australia, a mix of both deep dread and inspiring humanity.
