Awards

John Canty’s picture book, Heads and Tails: Insects, published by Berbay Publishing , has won an award for Best International Picture Book at the Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Awards (CICLA) in China.
Heads and Tails: Insects was one of five children’s books awarded in the Best International Picture Book category, alongside two books from China, and titles from Italy and Brazil.

Sue deGennaro’s picture book Missing Marvin, published by Scholastic has won this year’s Children’s Peace Literature Award. Convener of the judging panel Kate Prescott described Missing Marvin as a funny and gentle picture book showing how to address bullying and conflict in a peaceful way.
The biennial award, worth $3000, is presented by Psychologists for Peace, a South Australian-based interest group of the Australian Psychological Society, to a book which ‘encourages the peaceful resolution of conflict’ or ‘promotes peace at the global, local or interpersonal level’.

The Australian Children's Laureate
Morris Gleitzman's two-year term as Australian Children's Laureate ends in December.
It's been a wonderful two years. As most know Morris is an inspiring speaker with a strong message and an entertaining delivery and this was the case when he wrapped up his amazingly full term as Laureate at the Melbourne farewell for him on Thursday November 28 at The Wheeler Centre.  The enthusiastic and appreciative  audience included illlustrator Andrew Weldon who has been an important collaborator in the delivery of Morris's messages as Laureate, designing and illustrating Stories Make Us,  the perpetual calendar created for Morris’s two year term.
Morris was also given a hearty farewell in Sydney on Wednesday 20 November at Penguin Random House where the attendees were entertained with an in-conversation between Morris and his longtime publisher and  friend, Laura Harris , PRH Director.
The new Laureate for 2020/21 will be announced in early february 2020.

Check the Australian Children's Laureate website
for Morris Gleitzman's thoughts on the theme for December,
Dare To Do It, some great reading suggestions and book related ideas.

Morris says, ' As I've tried to express each month in the calendar's themes and ideas, but it's all summed up for me in this month's catchcry - Dare To Do It December.''
